The Basic Need of a Writer

The basic need of any writer includes one essential element — time. Time keeps us creating or it could stop the words from flowing. Time is so precious in the writing world that we all try to squeeze out as many words before it’s time for bed, or time for work, or time to cook dinner, or time to die.

Time is basically a writer’s fear factor; we’re scared to misuse it but know that fighting through that fear could change our lives.

Time is always on my mind. I’m always trying to do multiple things at once so I can squeeze every ounce of opportunity out of it. In writing, I’m trying to knock out 250-500 words while I figure out if I’m doing a blog post this week and wondering how many followers I’ve lost by not posting enough on social media.

Can I share something with Y’all? Here’s the real reason why time is so valuable to me; I lost my Mom months before her 50th birthday and I’m about to hit my 35th b.day (yeah that’s my baby pic when I was months old) and I know I haven’t done enough. I know you’re like “that’s a 15-year difference, so why are you even stressed about it now?” Well, because I don’t know when my time is up and I have so many stories to tell, so many lessons to teach my girls and some many more laughs to have with my loved ones. Honestly, I’m a bit obsessed with using my time wisely just based on what I’ve seen on t.v. or hear on the radio (yes I do still listen to the radio and you should too damnit!).

So I’ll admit it, Yes, I’m obsessed with time and getting as many books and stories out as I can and doing so that I can establish a career from those words.

Do you agree? Is time your basic need as a writer or is it something else? Tell me what you think.

With passion,
